Business Dynamics and Challenges

Business Activities: Ntomb’lele Legacy Group operates within the tourism and hospitality sector, providing luxury self-catering holiday accommodation to tourists and travelers. The business specialises in offering premium villa-style accommodation designed to deliver comfort, privacy, and a high-quality guest experience.
Challenges/Needs: Ntomb’lele Ocean View experienced several operational challenges that limited its revenue potential. One of the main challenges was seasonal demand, particularly during the winter months. Although each villa is equipped with a swimming pool, colder weather reduced guests’ willingness to use these facilities, which negatively affected bookings and overall sales during this period. In addition, the property has an extensive yard area that requires ongoing maintenance. The scale of the outdoor space placed pressure on operational capacity and resources, making it difficult for the business to maintain the property consistently at the desired standard. Another key challenge related to the business’s online booking platform. Faulty website links and payment processing issues resulted in lost sales, as potential customers were unable to complete bookings successfully. This limited the business’s ability to convert online interest into confirmed reservations.

Intervention Insights and Results

Intervention Details: Through SEDFA’s targeted interventions, the challenges at Ntomb’lele Ocean View were addressed through both financial and non-financial support. The business received assistance through the Asset Assist Programme, which provided 100% grant funding to the value of R193,000.00. This funding was utilised to purchase essential equipment, including pool pump systems to ensure that swimming pool water remains warm throughout the year, as well as a lawn mower to support regular yard maintenance and improve the overall presentation of the property.

In addition to asset support, Ntomb’lele Ocean View also received website development and digital facelift support valued at R33,350.00. This intervention addressed previous online booking and payment processing challenges by improving website functionality, accessibility, and user experience, thereby enhancing the business’s ability to convert online interest into confirmed bookings.
Outcome Details: The intervention has delivered significant measurable results for Ntomb’lele Ocean View, strengthening both its financial performance and social impact in the community:
• Turnover Growth: Revenue increased from R74,608.75 to R259,944.66, representing an increase of R185,335.91, equivalent to approximately 248% growth. This improvement is directly linked to the acquisition of grant-funded equipment, which enabled year-round use of facilities during the winter season, as well as improved direct bookings through the upgraded website.
• Job Creation: Employment increased from 3 to 7 employees, resulting in the creation of 4 new jobs (133%) to support expanded operations and increased occupancy levels.
• Profitability: The business recorded a significant improvement in profitability, moving from a net loss of R112,604.54 to a reduced net loss of R16,622.32. This reflects an improvement of R95,982.22, equivalent to approximately 85%, demonstrating enhanced financial resilience and progress toward sustainability following the intervention.
